The most famous of all well-known Czech classics, three gems of Czech music: Smetana’s cycle of symphonic poems My Country, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” and both sets of Slavonic Dances. These works are known throughout the world and are so well-loved that they continue to attract new listeners even today. - Bedřich Smetana (1824 – 1884)
Bedřich Smetana was an influential Czech composer who is nowadays famous mainly for its cycle of symphonic poems „Má vlast“ and operas named „Libuše“ and „Prodaná nevěsta“. He had a great talent for composing, but sadly suffered from health and financial problems most of his life. During the last ten years of his living he gradually lost his audition. Nevertheless he continued componing even without being able to hear the sound of his famous music.
- Antonín Dvořák (1841 – 1904)
Antonín Dvořák was one of the most famous Czech and world-known composers. He became popular for his symphonic pieces, great vocal-instrumental compositions, concertos and operas. At one point in time he was also taught by Bedřich Smetana. The worldwide fame of Dvořák came with his stay in the U.S. where he componed his Symphony No. 9 called “From the New World”. Antonín Dvořák was also a hugely talented musician, he played piano, organ, violin and viola.
The beginnings of production of the gingerbread from Pardubice have been traced up until the 16th century. Today is the gingerbread from Pardubice and surroundings connected with a unique recipe and decoration styles. This type of gingerbread is produced by only a few local companies, e.g. by the firm “Novotný”; creator of the gingerbread in this giftbox.
